P. Capros, (2010), "POWER CHOICES - Technical presentation of PRIMES model results"
Presented at the Discussion Workshop with EURELECTRIC, "POWER CHOICES: Pathways to carbon-neutral electricity in Europe by 2050", organised by EURELECTRIC, Brussels, January 15, 2010.
The European electricity sector, at the highest level, is committed to becoming carbon-neutral by 2050. Back in March 2009, 61 CEOs representing more than 70% of Europe's electricity generation business endorsed this major vision by signing the attached Declaration. In order to see how to make such vision a reality, EURELECTRIC has conducted a project entitled "Power Choices". The Study was precisely commissioned to investigate pathways to carbon-neutral European electricity by 2050. This study, conducted together with E3MLab/ICCS by using the PRIMES energy model, postulates a carbon-neutral power sector under an EU-wide target of -75% domestic reduction in GHGs by 2050, in the whole of Europe's economy. The study examines the technological developments, costs and regulatory framework needed to enable the power sector reach its carbon-neutral goal."
On the Discussion Workshop were presented the detailed findings of the study.
