Regional socio-economic impact modelling of energy development has recently been a major issue in impact assessment. This paper presents an overview of the particular impacts generated from energy development and a critical survey of the methodological techniques used in their evaluation. Furthermore, a number of selected models are thoroughly examined and their conceptual and analytical approaches reviewed. Finally, a set of further refinements is proposed, towards the establishment of an interdisciplinary regional impact modelling environment.
