Capros P., P. Karadeloglou and G.N. Mentzas (1990) "Financing Pollution Abatement Investments: Alternative Patterns and Macroeconomic Implications"

Paper presented at the International Conference of the European Association of Environmental Economics on "Environmental Cooperation and Policy in the Single Market", 17-20 April, University of Venice, Italy.

The process of the completion of the European Internal Market involves the allocation of additional funds, which will have important implications on the environmental system. In macroeconomic terms the satisfaction of environmental goals requires heavy investment in pollution abatement technologies; such investment might in turn generate multiple impacts, at least in the less developed member states. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the macroeconomic feedback effects of the reduction of SO2 and NOx emissions in Greece. The analysis empirically assesses the costs and ensuing macroeconomic impacts of different sources for financing the investment needed for emission reduction.
