N. Mentzas, P. Capros, J.-E. Samouilidis (1987) "An Assessment of Regional Energy-Economy Models"
Paper presented at the XXVII European Congress of the Regional Science Association, 25-28 Aug., Athens.
A considerable number of methods and modelling techniques are available for satisfying the need of regional structure description and for performing forecasting and policy analysis. Not all of them, however, are capable of considering the regional energy-economy interdependencies in a consistent manner. Only three, namely the economic base, the input-output and the econometric approaches have been widely used for energy-related purposes.
This paper examines the three major alternative modelling techniques mentioned above, and presents their advantages and limitations in modelling the regional energy-economy interactions. Twelve modelling applications are also presented and compared.
