Summary for Policymakers of IPCC Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5ºC approved by governments

On the 8th of October 2018 the IPCC Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C was released. The IPCC report confirmed that limiting global warming to 1.5°C would require rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society. When compared to limiting global warming to 2°C, achieving 1.5°C would bring clear benefits to people and natural ecosystems and could go hand in hand with ensuring a more sustainable and equitable society. For the purposes of the Report, more than 6,000 scientific references were cited, including also contributions by E3MLab researchers. E3MLab has contributed to the Report with GEM-E3 model, which is included in the IAM modelling frameworks that provided the scenario ensemble data for the mitigation analysis of Chapter 2. The main features and mitigation measures represented in the GEM-E3 model are presented in the Supplementary Material of Chapter 2 along with the other participating IAMs.
